Sansusi Sound Sculpture

A competition proposal for a performance stage in the Aknīste forest, Latvia, designed so the forest doesn’t just surround the music. It joins it. A timber sanctuary captures the tones of wind and leaves through hidden resonance chambers and returns them as a low hum, amplified by umbrella gramophones suspended above the stage.

Modular seating wraps the stage so the audience sits inside the sound rather than in front of it, and the design draws on Latvia’s Selonian heritage. A space where performance, structure and landscape share one acoustic system.
